Community Outreach & Events Intern 

Internship Overview

Education for Tomorrow Alliance is seeking a creative, dynamic individual interested in gaining experience and insights to support fundraising and marketing activities during Summer 2018.  The intern will have an opportunity to work on a variety of projects for both program and fundraising events, and have an impact on the organization’s outreach efforts.  The intern will also help strategize and implement ways to convey EfTA success stories to the community.  This position reports to the President, but will collaborate with both full-time employees.

Responsibilities

Events Management

  • Aid in the coordination of event logistics, vendor management, and volunteer coordination, etc.  Follow and adapt event timelines
  • Work with team to create promotional materials for events
  • Assist with planning and outreach for the annual trivia night fundraiser and the Student Internship Program luncheon
  • Help research corporate sponsorships and research and solicit in-kind silent auction donations for trivia night
  • Ensure all donations and auction items are recorded and follow up completed
  • Create event planning best practices guide to assist with planning and evaluation in future years; offer feedback on improving processes  

Marketing & Outreach

  • Create/update templates for development emails (solicitations, ticket sales, volunteer appeals, etc.) and social medial outreach
  • Plan a monthly email outreach calendar for supporters  
  • Help collect success stories from program alumni
  • Create a slideshow or video that could be used to convey the impact of EfTA programming (time dependent)
  • Participate in networking activities as a representative of Education for Tomorrow Alliance

Student Qualifications & Requirements

The ideal candidate should be a current college student (must be returning to school in Fall 2018) ready with a sense of humor to step up as needed to support the team.  Key qualifications include:

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Interest in marketing, fundraising, events, and experiential education
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office; knowledge of database software and social media tools, and/or experience creating marketing materials a plus
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and problem solve
  • Strong time management and follow through skills

Policies & Expectations

The intern will work 35 hours per week Monday through Friday.  Start dates are flexible so long as the eight week internship can be completed by August 24, 2018.  The pay for eight weeks of work is $2,750.

The intern will be expected to follow the same code of conduct as other employees.  He/She will be accountable as a representative of the organization.  The intern supervisor will be accessible, will include the intern in weekly staff meetings and will offer ongoing feedback on his/her work product.  The supervisor will provide a written and verbal evaluation at the end of the internship to promote professional growth. 

Learning Objectives

This internship offers a great opportunity to develop skills and learn more broadly about the nonprofit community.  EfTA will provide hands-on learning where an intern has the opportunity to wear many hats and the importance of flexibility in a smaller workplace.  The intern will learn about the important collaborations that exist between the business and nonprofit sectors, and how those can be used to support the next generation.  He/she will have a chance to engage with board members to understand their role in the organization.  He/she will gain hands-on project management experience in event planning, which includes implementation, evaluation, and volunteer management.  The intern will have the opportunity to put his/her creativity to work creating messaging that engages people in support of career development, STEM, and youth leadership programming. He/she will practice their oral and written communications skills, and have an introduction to our volunteer database.  In addition, the intern will build his/her own soft skills in networking, multi-tasking, and time management that will serve the intern in any field.
