Interns at the camp have some flexibility in determining what their roles will be. We have over 1200 children who attend camp each summer over 4 sessions ages 3 ½ to 4th grade graduates. Interns have chosen a variety of ways to work with the children over the years. Some of these include developing a lesson plan that supports the camp curriculum. For example one intern was the Water Wizard and demonstrated several experiments that highlighted the uniqueness of water. Another showed chemistry “magic tricks” to the classes. One intern rolled a cart from class to class and shared how to create a “mini museum” by collecting seeds, rocks and other nature-oriented items. Her goal was to encourage children to notice the world around them. Another intern was interested in teaching so she trained under one of our amazing teachers and concluded her internship by teaching a lesson to the campers. Her lesson included a hands-on book that she wrote about simple machines! Yet another intern built a wooden structure that had a simulated mini hurricane inside. Our campers loved getting sprayed with water while enduring the winds from a giant fan! All these ideas make learning fun for young children! To summarize we work with our interns to make their experience fun and yet educational for our campers. Required Work Date Options: The dates for this internship are during camp weeks. Session 1 - June 2 through June 13 or Session 3 - June 16 through June 27
