Student internship program mentor information
EfTA's Student Internship Program (SIP) offers bright, motivated high school seniors hands-on opportunities in their desired field. SIP internships are designed to provide valuable work experiences for students who are exploring career options. The program offers students a first step toward furthering their education and figuring out what direction they want to take in life. In addition, the process of applying offers insights to the job search and introduces students to the value of networking and of developing transferable skills that can eventually be included in a resume.
This internship is a great opportunity for both mentors and interns, and this year will be offering in-person internship opportunities only. Students apply and compete for these internships, therefore these are historically very ambitious, intelligent young adults capable of doing impressive work for their level of education. Your interns will have indicated an interest in pursuing a related career, so this is their chance to learn the realities of such a career before investing hundreds of hours and dollars in the profession.

Program Highlights:
- Students experience the realities of your industry through in-person work experience during the summer proceeding their senior year of school.
- Motivated students provide insights and assistance to your organizations.
- You, as a mentor, agree to provide meaningful quality opportunities for them to learn as much as possible about the field/industry. This may include assigning small projects, as well as having students attend client meetings and site visits. Any chance for students to see or participate in skills of the industry is appreciated.
- Payment to students is optional. Students are told that this is an unpaid opportunity to which they must commit two weeks of full-time work. However, some mentors choose or have a company policy to pay students.
- In 2025, the EfTA team plans to host a Student Internship Program morning reception on June 24 at 8:00 am. Intern hosts are asked to add this date to their calendar.
Considerations:
-Successful internships have at least one on-site point person to whom students report each day.
-Ideally, students can be given one or more projects to work on independently, or responsibilities with specific directions/guidelines. Shadowing is okay, as not every industry allows for hands-on student participation.
-Intern hosts should have an office not based in a private home.
-Please include any details on requirements related to background checks, skills, or work and blackout periods on the registration form.
Suggested Work Period: Any consecutive two-week period between June 3 and July 26, 2024.
